I grew up in Sydney and attended Rose Bay Public School and then Sydney Grammar School. I graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990 and completed internship and residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and then commenced advanced training in general surgeon before switching over to Urology training. I spent time at Newcastle, Concord and St Vincent’s Hospitals before doing a Uro Oncology fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide in 2000.
Returning to NSW as a consultant Urologist in 2001, I established practices in Bondi Junction, Liverpool, Bankstown, and Nowra, with 2 public Hospital appointments at Liverpool and Bankstown Hospitals, and private hospital appointments at Sydney South West Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, Hurstville Private Hospital and Nowra Private Hospital. Currently, I am the head of the department of Urology at Sydney South West Private Hospital in Liverpool and a member of the Medical Advisory Council at that hospital.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I have always been and still am heavily involved in teaching of registrars, residents, and medical students. Currently we have students from both UNSW and UWS attached to our units at Liverpool and Bankstown Hospitals. I have also given many lectures to local GP’s. I was the training Supervisor at Liverpool from 2009 to 2014 and have just completed my term as the Chair of the NSW Training Accreditation and Evaluation Committee of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand from 2014 to 2016. I was the Deputy Chair of this committee from 2012-2014. As the chair of this Committee I was a member of the Board of Urology as the NSW representative. This is a Board of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and deals with the Urology trainees. As the past Chair of Training I am still involved with the Board and contribute with training post Inspections in New Zealand and interstate.
Since completing my training I have endeavoured to keep up with the any changes in technique and technology that have affected our profession. I completed a preceptorship in 2008 at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio USA in Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery and completed further training in Robotic Surgery in Hong Kong in 2013.
My main areas of interest are Uro Oncology (Prostate, Bladder, Kidney and Testis Cancer) for which I performs Open, Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery, Benign prostatic disease and the treatment of stones in the urinary tract.
